PacMan Gameplay

Pac-Man is an addictive game that started off as an arcade phenomenon before being ported to home computers and video game consoles. Although there are several reboots, sequels, and spin-offs, there is only one original Pac-Man game.

The game is simple. Eat all the dots on the level while avoiding the infamous Ghost Gang (Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde). When you eat a large dot, referred to as a Pill, then the ghosts turn transparent for a few seconds. Now is the time to get your revenge by chasing and eating them!

The 1980 version of PacMan for Dos is the most similar to the original arcade experience, although the gameplay feels weird using arrow keys instead of a joystick.

Now for a few tips:

  • Pay attention to patterns – Often level layouts repeat and the ghosts will initially move in similar patterns initially before beginning to pursue you. Use this to your advantage.
  • Focus on sections – It pays to have a plan and focus on clearing as much of one section of the map as you safely can before moving to another section. Running around haphazardly and leaving random dots behind leads to a complicated cleanup at the end of the level.
  • Keep moving and be careful on corners – If you slow down or stop moving, you are more likely to be trapped by the Ghost Gang. Also, the map corners only have 2 ways out, and there are four ghosts. Get through those corners quickly.
